OXO Good Grips Professional 14-Piece Knife Block Set | Stainless Steel Knives

OXO Good Grips Professional 14-Piece Knife Block SetPeople like OXO. There’s no denying that. Check out other OXO products on Amazon and see how they’ve gained a great reputation as makers of reasonably-priced kitchen gadgets that perform well and feel good in your hands.

Their Good Grips line, of which this knife set is a part, is known for it’s non-slip attractive handles and ergonomic design.

This knife set seems to be no exception — it’s no Wusthof but maybe you don’t need the cachet that comes with one of those high-end names.

The blades are made of a mid-range stainless steel. They won’t be the sharpest knives, nor will they hold their edges exceptionally long but in this price range you could do a lot worse.

This set includes an eight inch chef’s knife, an eight inch slicer, a 3.5 inch parer, a 5 inch utility knife, a small four inch Santoku, an eight inch bread knife, a honing steel, 6 steak knives and wood block for storage.

At OnlyKnives, we’re partial to the Forschner knives in this low-end price range, but OXO is a safe bet as well.

Yoshikin Global Yanagi 10-Inch Sashimi Knife | Left-handed or Right

Posted on: Feb 26

\This Global knife has got their sure-grip comfortable handle, razor-sharp blade and their patented sand-filled handles for creating the perfect balance. Can’t really go wrong with this one — but do note the size. It’s somewhat large for that kind of knife.

There’s a lefty version as well as a right. There must be more left-handed sushi chefs than I thought — Amazon ranks the left-handed version as more popular than the right!

One of those chefs even wrote a review on Amazon. and raved about it. But don’t take their word — this one’s from Global, which means you know it’s quality.

Randall Made Knives | Model #14 Attack and #15 Airman | Collectible USMC Militaria | Survival Knife

Posted on: Feb 25

Randall Made Knives Models 14 and 15The Model #14 Attack and the #15 Airman are so similar, they almost don’t deserve their own model numbers. The only real difference is the blade length.

The 15, with its 5.5″ blade, was designed especially for airman survival and was developed in co-operation with the USMC equipment board. And that explains why it gets its own model number.

The #14 is identical to the 15, save for its slightly longer 7.5″ blade.

Both models feature high-carbon stainless steel blades. The standard tang is extra heavy and 7/8″ wide, but a lighter weight 1/2″ option is available. Sawteeth are also available as an option, but not coupled with the light-weight tang.

The handles are available in a choice of black or green micarta. They feature a finger-grip handle, with the option for a single finger grip and a Border Patrol shape. The hilt comes in brass or nickel silver and can be made either straight or forward-curved.

Lee Enfield Rifle Bayonet | WWII Militaria Collectible | British SMLE / MLE

Posted on: Feb 18

Lee Enfield Bayonet from WWIIDesigned to fit the Lee-Enfield Rifle, the Enfield bayonet comes in two basic forms. The “spike bayonet”, which is essentially just a steel spear, attaches to the metal mount on the tip of the rifle and was the original model intended for this rifle. The Number 4 Enfield Model, introduced just before WWII saw the inclusion of a new, bladed bayonet, that used the same mount as the original spike.

The Lee-Enfield Rifle design has been in use for well over a hundred years, making it the longest-continuously serving bolt-action rifle design of any currently-produced model. It was introduced in 1895 and promptly given the nickname “Emily”, for “MLE” or Magazine Lee Enfield.

It was a standard-issue rifle for the British Army for the better part of the 20th century and can still be found in use today throughout British Commonwealth nations.

The bayonet can be found in a variety of forms. It can be found newly-manufactured to fit a current rifle. These types of bayonets can be found quite inexpensively. On the other hand, antique collectible bayonets from WWII or earlier can be found sporadically on eBay for up to several hundred dollars, depending on age, historical significance and condition.
