W.R. Case Classic Knives | Collectible Pocket Knives

Posted on: Feb 9

W.R. Case Classic Pocket KnivesNearly twenty years ago, the head of W.R. Case Cutlery, Jim Parker, came up with the idea to make very high-quality reproductions of knives that had long been out of production. Some of these knives were originally produced by Case, but others were not. All of the new, reproductions, however, would bear the Case name. Hence was born ‘Case Classic Knives’.

Beginning in 1990 and continuing until 1995, Case produced a small number of these knives, representing thirty-seven classic models.

Today these knives have quite a following. There is a popular ‘Case Classics Club’, made up of devoted collectors and enthusiasts. And some of the knives’ value often exceeds several hundred dollars on the resale market.

Their quality is undisputed, and most have unique, attractive handles as well. This, coupled with their low production runs, make them ideal collectors items for knife enthusiasts worldwide.

Daggers and Bayonets | Book of Collectibles | WWII Daggers, German Bayonets, etc.

Posted on: Feb 8

Collectible Bayonets and Daggers from WWII, WWI, Germany, etc.One hundred and twenty eight pages devoted to nothing but daggers and bayonets!

Logan Thompson takes us on a journey, from ancient times up through modern day, explaining and detailing the history and evolution of these two types of knives. He provides many illustrations and pictures, showing us German, British, and French bayonets, for example, along with several different types of daggers. Particularly good are the descriptions of the transformative effects on warfare of both daggers and bayonets.

Divided into two main sections — one for daggers and one for bayonets — this book devotes roughly sixty pages to each. There is a third mini-section of a few pages that is devoted to finding these collectible knives and restoring them to their original beauty.

M-5 Garand Bayonet for M-1 Rifle | US Military Collectible w/ Scabbard

Posted on: Feb 7

Collectible M-5 Garand Bayonet for M-1 Military RiflePictured at right is an M-5 bayonet, designed to fit the M-1 Garand Rifle. It is an authentic, US military issued bayonet.

This bayonet style was issued first in 1953 and replaced the earlier M-1 and M-1905 bayonets. During the Korean war, those models were found to be awkward to manipulate in the field. This M-5 is more of a combat knife than a traditional bayonet.

This knife has a 6.75″ blade and measures 11.5″ overall. The blade is sharpened on both sides — the full-length on one side and roughly half on the other.

The scabbard is listed on Amazon as a model M1A1. I would question that, though, since most of these sheaths were model M8A1. Could be a typo. Either way, it’s also in new condition and features the standard belt loop.

A classic piece of American Militaria for knife buffs.

Hen and Rooster Stag Bowie Knife | Made in Solingen, Germany for Frost Cutlery

Posted on: Feb 6

Hen and Rooster Bowie Knife from SolingenThe Hen and Rooster brand has a bit of a tortured history. Founded in 1845 in Solingen, Germany by Carl Bertram, the name comes from Mr. Bertram’s primary business at the time — poultry! The Hen and Rooster logo was used to mark the knives and has since become an important icon in the knife world.

Hen and Rooster helped establish Solingen as the “City of Knives” — known worldwide as the city with numerous world-class knife makers. They continued to make knives under the Bertram family’s direction for over one hundred years.

In 1975, the firm was sold to A.G. Russell, which continued to make the knives under the Hen and Rooster name for five additional years.

In 1980, the Solingen factory was closed and the firm was liquidated. In 1983 a consortium of businessmen hailing from Tennessee and Soligen acquired the rights to the Hen and Rooster name. Shortly after, the full rights were sold to James Frost of Frost Cutlery. Today, he holds the exclusive rights to the brand and has resurrected production of the knives in Solingen, Germany.

As a result of this history, you will see many different types of Hen and Rooster Knives. The knife pictured at right is a Stag Bowie Knife, measuring 14.375″ overall, with a 9.25 stainless steel full-tang blade.
