The Bear & Son 504D is the Damascus steel version of the Alabama company’s Sideliner folding knife. All the steel parts, and even the dies and jigs which make the parts, are manufactured at the company facility in Jacksonville. The bone handle slabs were cut from genuine imported India stag bone.
The knife is only 3-1/2 inches long when closed and attaches neatly to the lip of a pants pocket with a stainless steel pocket clip. Layered high carbon Damascus-type steel gives the blade of the 504D its unique swirled pattern, and the stretched layers of forged steel also contribute to blade strength. The nickel silver bolster contains the ball bearing pivot for the Damascus blade. Hand-finishing of the knife ensures every one is pre-adjusted for smooth operation. Slip the knife out of the pocket and it opens easily with thumb pressure on the loop of the blade. In the fully open position, the blade snaps into place with the Bear & Son Sideliner liner lock mechanism.
Bear & Son keeps cost down and quality high by building everything on site — nothing in their product line is sub-contracted or assembled from purchased parts. Advanced machining combines with numerous skilled hand operations to produce these unique knives, all of which show a sturdy character you’ll soon recognize as the mark of a Bear & Son product.
