messermeister knives

Under the Messermeister brand, you’ll find professional chef’s knives from both Germany and Japan forged in the cutlery capitals of both countries. The founder of Messermeister partnered with suppliers from all over the world to create his own line of quality cutlery, adding his own concepts to traditional patterns.

History

Messermeister’s company history literally follows the journeys of Bernd Dressler around the world. Dressler emigrated to the U.S. from Australia in 1967 to become a sales representative for a major German cutlery company. While marketing those traditional knives, Dressler saw a need for cutlery and culinary tools that were more practical and more efficient than the standard designs. As his work put him in touch with the world’s best knife suppliers, he promoted his own ideas about knives and contracted with a network of manufacturing companies to produce innovative knives and tools destined for the U.S. market.

In 1981, Dressler’s nationwide marketing plan introduced the U.S. to what later became the Messermeister (or Knife Master) brand. Bernd Dressler’s unique ideas include the first bolsterless knife heel and the first full cambered wide bladed chef’s knife. Dressler’s Messermeister knives show the solid construction of traditional patterns from Germany and Japan but with design influences from both cultures. Whether the Messermeister knife came from Seki, Japan or Solingen, Germany, the knife evolved from a combination of modern materials and manufacturing techniques plus the skilled hand-craftsmanship of experienced local artisans.

Products

Messermeister produces three distinct product lines in both German and Japanese steel. Messermeister’s Meridian Elite forged knives represent the company’s best German product with one-piece forged Solingen steel blades and tangs and triple-riveted handle grips. Messermeister’s Mu knives from Seki City, Japan use a fine grade of Japanese steel and a traditional Japanese handle pattern with grips of either durable black composite or tough and beautiful laminated bamboo. Messermeister also manufactures stamped steel knives finished to high standards and sold under either Park Plaza or Asian Precision brand names.
