It's not only the good fishermen who actually need a knife of the quality that this Queen Cutlery Filet blade shows. We all get lucky sometime, and when the day is done and it's time for the dirty work, to do justice to the catch you need good tools. Within a total length of 8 1/2" the Queen filet knife places 6 1/4" of slender and flexible stainless steel, for creating those beautiful and boneless fillets we'll always remember.

Designed for delicate work, the Queen version incorporates nickel silver guard and pommel with low profiles that will allow a secure grip and not get in the way of the work. Construction is gap free and sanitary, for easy cleanup and safe work. The honey amber bone handle slabs are well aged to prevent warping in the wet conditions this knife is bound to see, and are textured with a "stag antler" pattern that adds beauty as well as gripping function.

When honed to a razor edge this corrosion resistant blade will bend to the shape of the bone it follows, in the hands of a skilled fisherman, and yield the maximum return for your efforts. Try the same task with a cheap, stiff knife, and you'll leave enough food behind to disgrace the profession.

The Queen Filet comes with a brown leather belt sheath, and should be stored and handled with the same level of care that made it.

To a novice the classic variations of the American pocketknife must look much the same. Except for the obvious differences of size and number of blades, this tried and true tool always has the same basic form. But, look closer and you'll see many subtle differences that are as much decisions of style as of function. Names refer to handle patterns as much as to blades.

Queen Cutlery sticks to the old patterns in their Pennsylvania factory, using many of the more time consuming hand processes in the construction of these fine knives. Their product line shows the wide variety of handle and blade patterns that evolved to fit the exacting needs of the American workplace and the American frontier.

The Small Stockman, with handle slabs of beautiful American birdseye maple burl, shows the slightly fatter, gentle wave of that particular handle style, developed for reasons only a stockman and knife maker could understand. The 3 3/8" closed length houses three D2 tool steel blades in clip, spey and sheepsfoot patterns. Stout and compact, it's a very practical size even for people who don't work the herds, and the rare birdseye maple handle slabs only increase in beauty and utility over time.

Working from the same Titusville, Pennsylvania, factory that housed their predecessor, Schatt and Morgan Cutlery, Queen still uses many of the old manufacturing processes and holds firmly to the old standards of craftsmanship. Their extensive product line includes many varieties of the American classic pocketknife, with handle slabs of rare woods from both native and foreign sources.

This sturdy pocket trapper knife, 4 !/8" closed, houses two practical woodsman's D2 tool steel blades just under 3 1/2" long. These are the traditional trapper's pair of spear point and spey, for piercing and for cutting as well as endless other applications. The uniqueness of this knife lies in the birds' eye maple handle slabs. One of the hardest and rarest of American hardwoods, the best of this whorled and tight grained wood is cut from benign burl growths on sugar maple and shows a beautiful color and pattern prized by furniture makers for veneer.

The beauty of that wood was of equal interest to traditional knife makers who sought it out for other reasons. Few woods are so durable as birds' eye, and a knife that survives years of hard use will only develop a better and even more practical gripping texture as the wood wears and ages.

Many of Queen Cutlery's older production pieces are now collector's items, and for good reason.

The Mountain Man Lockback from Queen Cutlery is nearly big enough to match the simple functionality of a small sheath knife, but folds in pocketknife style for easy carry. Built with the strength for heavy work, the lockback function provides security under load, eliminating that extra thought (reminding yourself it can fold back on your fingers) you need when using most pocket knives.

In Queen Cutlery's Pennsylvania factory, craftmen still follow the methods and patterns of a century ago, combining the old reliable knowledge with the new techniques that make sense. Queen's modern products show the same features as the antiques from their predecessor, Schatt and Morgan, whose knives now occupy places on collector's shelves.

Suitable as a small hunting and skinning knife, the Mountain Man will also find many uses at home and even in the woodshop, with the size and grip you need in a utility or camp blade. The 4 5/8" closed length is a little too bulky for the pocket but adapts well to many accessory belt sheaths available today.

Queen Cutlery's tradition of fine production level craftsmanship and the use of the best natural materials result in a simple and very practical knife with collectability. The rare American hardwood birdseye maple provides unique beauty as well as practicality in the handle grips of this unique American design.
