This is a basic, but fully functional katana. Plain and simple. Shinwa would have you believe it's something special - They claim that their Noble series swords are above and beyond many others because they aren't "cheap imitations." Strong words. But are they true?

Well let's take a look, shall we? Hmm... the blade seems strong enough. It's a full-tang blade, made from high carbon steel and forged by hand under extreme heat. Those are first-class characteristics so far.

And there's nothing fishy about the handle. It's pretty basic as well, made of a solid hardwood core and wrapped with black cord in classic samurai style. The tsuba is both traditional and edgy with its pewter-colored metal ring, too.

The Noble katana also comes with a lacquered hardwood scabbard, nylon cord wrap, and a velvet sword bag. These are all good, standard features as well... more like expectations, really.

So does Shinwa live up to their strong words on this sword? Yes... and no. Yes, the Noble katana isn't a cheap imitation sword. It's made of quality materials and it's not trying to be something it's not. But no, there's nothing about it that jumps out as being exceptional. A good solid Katana at a reasonable price. No more, no less.

This odachi is made from super-strong 1060 high carbon steel, with a razor-sharp double edge that protrudes to a point at the tip. It's genuinely handmade, and if you look closely you can even see the uneven folded waves of steel along the edge to prove it.

The long handle will easily accommodate any two-handed grip. It's wrapped with authentic rayskin and black cord. The tsuba and koiguchi are both made from solid brass, engraved with a decorative samurai motif... so it's not a boring sword by any means.

The Shinwa odachi also comes with a black lacquered hardwood scabbard and a sword bag, for display and transportation respectively.

At over five feet long, you'd think an odachi would be more expensive to manufacture than an ordinary katana. Not so, here. You'll find that its price is reasonable for this type of weapon.

The blade is hand-forged and heat-treated, crafted from solid high carbon steel. It measures 27.375 inches in length, complementing an overall length of 41.5 inches.

The Royal Warrior's handle is nicely crafted as well, made from durable hardwood and wrapped with nylon cording. However, beware of extensive wear and tear, because the nylon may start to fray over time.

The sword's tsuba, or guard, is made from solid zinc and displays a powerful variation of the Shinwa dragon logo. It also comes with a black lacquered hardwood scabbard, a custom velvet bag, and an instruction kit for proper sword care and storage.

So if you're a novice sword enthusiast who's got an eye for well-balanced tradition and quality, this just might be the sword to get you started.
