Cold Steel AK-47 Tactical Folding Knife | High Carbon Stainless Steel Locking Blade w/ Pistol Grip Handle

Inspired by the assault rifle adopted by the Russian Army in 1949, the Cold Steel AK-47 Knife's most obvious resemblance to "the People's Rifle" is the bayonet groove in the four-inch AUS-8 blade. Add to that the kind of rugged construction that you can drop in a muddy puddle and come back to later knowing it still works, and you do have some of the true AK-47 character in this tough tactical folder.

With stainless steel liners and a 4 mm thick AUS-8 high carbon stainless steel blade, the AK-47 Knife starts out strong and gets stronger. Thick handle slabs of grooved aircraft quality aluminum form the grip, and the blade lock mechanism is extra solid. Instead of thumb studs, the knife opens with a unique Cold Steel thumbplate. Now a standard feature on many of Cold Steel's tactical folders, the thumb plate allows opening from either side. The thumb plate also hooks on the seam of a pocket for a different kind of one-handed opening which shouldn't be attempted without some serious study and practice. The bead-blasted handle holds down the knife's shine, and the stainless steel folding clip mounts to either side for right or left-handed deployment.

The pommel of this eight-ounce knife is built from Grivory, another Cold Steel product with the company's trademark durability. Though the AK-47 isn't built to be a hammer, the company says it'll hold up to moderate bashing. The pommel also provides two holes for a wrist lanyard. The knife's lock has been tested against failure in both full-force strikes and missed strikes -- the ones that place unexpected forces on otherwise reliable blade lock systems. In both instances, the knife excels.

What catches the eye isn't the blocky pistol grip handle style but the wide, hollow ground blade. Heat-treated in a vacuum for uniform tempering and then put through a sub-zero hardening process, the polished blade's fine edge shows the refinement of a good skinner but was built for tougher jobs.

LaserLyte Ka-Bar Gun Knife Collectibles | Tactical Black Steel Pistol Bayonet

Collector's items aren't limited to the knives that survive the ages -- unique knives that come and go quickly also find a solid following. Let's put the Ka-Bar Pistol Bayonet by LaserLyte in that second collectible class, since it's a good idea which solves a problem no one had. Buy it while you can.

There's no question the LaserLyte Ka-Bar pistol bayonet is well made. This is a stout but small knife, only 0.2 pounds in weight with a glass-filled nylon handle and a wide, 2.75-inch long blade. The bayonet style of the blade is too thick to make it a good skinning knife, but is designed well for poking holes without breaking. The mount, which fits any large to medium handgun with a rail, fits securely and locks solidly in place. Pressing two locking buttons at once releases the knife from the rail. Tactical black 3CR13 steel by Ka-Bar means this is a blade you can trust.

The practical concerns do become overwhelming when you take an unbiased look at the knife's possibilities. It does stay out of the way when the pistol is fired, but aside from that mean look it does little to enhance the weapon's effectiveness. To use the knife, you're much better off removing it from the pistol. Instead of a belt sheath, the pistol bayonet is fitted with a short scabbard designed to conceal the point and cutting edge while on the gun. Pressing the lock at the base of the sheath allows removal from the knife. The designer recommends leaving the scabbard on the blade while it's mounted to the pistol, and I agree.

Refresh your memories of basic firearms safety before mounting the LaserLyte bayonet to your handgun. That procedure is a serious accident just waiting for the right moment and the right person. Never mount or remove the bayonet without unloading the gun and clearing the firing chamber.

Smith & Wesson's updated version of the Ontario Knife Company M9 Bayonet, the SW3G Special Ops M-9 includes the essential features that survival knives in a technological age should have. Similar to the knives issued to military helicopter pilots in Vietnam, the M9's sawtoothed spine can cut through plexiglass and sheet metal. With blade and scabbard locked, there's a handy wire cutter feature as well. A combo serrated edge parts rigging and slices seat belts with ease, and there's plenty of plain edge left for the usual work.

In general, this 12-3/4-inch-long bowie knife with nearly 8 inches of blade is the bayonet Rambo would have carried if he were a real person. Bayonet loop and notch allow mounting to the appropriate military rifles for display or actual use. Ontario Knife Company is a long term supplier of dependable knives for the U.S. military, so the M9 SW3G is the real thing. Since it hasn't been streamlined for civilian use, the 440C high carbon stainless steel is thick enough for prybar action. Rat tail tang construction and a light but rugged polymer handle save a little weight, but not much.

The nylon scabbard in matching OD green includes a map pouch, handy for other essentials as well, and clips to the belt. While this is a little more knife than many backpackers or hunters would want to carry, the M9 is a great knife for those who travel remote tracks in vehicles.

Here's a heavy-duty knife that's worth taking a look at. If it's a Smith & Wesson product, chances are it's got a lot to live up to. And it looks like the Special Ops Bayonet Challenger can live up to it just fine... but that's just from the first glance. Further scrutiny is needed:

The blade measures 7.7 inches, and the overall length goes to 12.8 inches. So it's not too big and bulky, but it's got enough length to satisfy a wide array of uses. Smith & Wesson treated this blade with a nice, thick coat of Teflon, keeping it scratch-resistant and impervious to the elements.

It comes to a convenient drop point with a top swage edge as well. The blade is 440 stainless steel, which is not the highest-quality steel used in a knife, but its versatility makes a decent choice for this type of knife.

The biggest feature to this knife set might be its scabbard, actually. It has a removable map pouch, screwdriver, sharpening stone, and a belt clip. And when the blade and scabbard lock together, you'll find they make a fairly decent wire cutter as well.

So all things considered, it's definitely not the cheapest knife we've seen, but it'll make up for that in terms of longevity and utility. Thanks Smith & Wesson!

Designed to fit the Lee-Enfield Rifle, the Enfield bayonet comes in two basic forms. The "spike bayonet", which is essentially just a steel spear, attaches to the metal mount on the tip of the rifle and was the original model intended for this rifle. The Number 4 Enfield Model, introduced just before WWII saw the inclusion of a new, bladed bayonet, that used the same mount as the original spike.

The Lee-Enfield Rifle design has been in use for well over a hundred years, making it the longest-continuously serving bolt-action rifle design of any currently-produced model. It was introduced in 1895 and promptly given the nickname "Emily", for "MLE" or Magazine Lee Enfield.

It was a standard-issue rifle for the British Army for the better part of the 20th century and can still be found in use today throughout British Commonwealth nations.

The bayonet can be found in a variety of forms. It can be found newly-manufactured to fit a current rifle. These types of bayonets can be found quite inexpensively. On the other hand, antique collectible bayonets from WWII or earlier can be found sporadically on eBay for up to several hundred dollars, depending on age, historical significance and condition.

One hundred and twenty eight pages devoted to nothing but daggers and bayonets!

Logan Thompson takes us on a journey, from ancient times up through modern day, explaining and detailing the history and evolution of these two types of knives. He provides many illustrations and pictures, showing us German, British, and French bayonets, for example, along with several different types of daggers. Particularly good are the descriptions of the transformative effects on warfare of both daggers and bayonets.

Divided into two main sections -- one for daggers and one for bayonets -- this book devotes roughly sixty pages to each. There is a third mini-section of a few pages that is devoted to finding these collectible knives and restoring them to their original beauty.

Bayonet Collectibles | Fits Mauser German Rifle | WW2 Militaria

German bayonets from WWII are a popular miltaria collectible. These bayonets were often designed to attach to the Mauser rifle, effectively making them spears for close-in combat. The Mauser was a common WWII German officer's rifle.

The item pictured at the right is a genuine bayonet knife for sale on eBay. These genuine items come up for sale on periodically, but are somewhat rare. Fewer than fifty genuine German WWII bayonets have sold on eBay in the last ninety days.

Pictured is a bayonet knife, with wooden handle, that includes a scabbard. It's in good condition and measures about 38cm long. The blade is engraved and measures 25cm long. Other bayonets like this one are typically similar in description.

A good addition to any WWII militaria collection.
