Kershaw Ken Onion Chive Pocket Knife | Speed Safe High-Carbon Folder | Rainbow or Solid Colors

Posted on: Jun 13

Kershaw Ken Onion Chive Pocket Knife w/ Speed Safe | High-Carbon FolderKen Onion is probably the best known American knife designer. With the release of his Ken Onion Chef’s Knife, he’s practically a household name.

Okay, that might be overstepping just a bit. But he’s now made several successful models for Kershaw, this Chive being a great example.

It’s small, light and sharp. The most notable feature, though, is the Speed-Safe opening mechanism. This provides the ease of an automatic opening mechanism, while ensuring you don’t cut yourself when it engages. There’s a safety to keep it in place as well.

The 1 and 15/16ths inch blade is 420 high-carbon steel and comes quite sharp out of the box. That’s quite small, so make sure you’re looking for that before buying. It includes a removable belt clip.

The Chive is available in several colors — black, red, stainless, pink and even rainbow!

I really like kershaw knives. I actually have one wit the speed opening feature,a nd absolutely love it. It really is one of my favorites. Additionally, Kershaw tends to make their blades a bit thinner than most other knifes. While this may be bad if you are planning to pretend it is a screwdriver or a prybar, it makes a big difference as far as getting them sharp, and keeping them sharp. I also like the way the shape of the edge of this knife doesn’t “swoop” as far as a lot of other folders. Again, if you are planning a slashing cut to a wolf in self defense, the deep belly will help :) but for those of us that live in reality, the ease of keeping a blade with a more shallow curve sharp si a nice trade off.
