Valiant Armoury produces replica weapons in medieval European styles, using high carbon “hand-hammered” forged steel blades and natural grip materials. Valiant’s earlier swords fared better at display than in staged combat or target cutting, but under its new ownership quality continues to advance.
Located in Grapevine, Texas, Valiant Armoury was a division of Procut until the death of Procut’s owner, Bob Miller. Miller’s passing prompted the sale of Valiant Armoury to Sonny Suttles in 2006. Suttles’s interest in battle ready weapons and custom swords invigorated the company and raised production standards. New product lines put less emphasis on heavy simplistic construction and incorporate new design ideas from sword makers Christian Fletcher, Angus Trim, and John Lundemo. Valiant recommends their practical cutters be used only for cutting soft targets like tamashigiri, and even then only with expert supervision.
Valiant’s “Performance Cutting Line” includes simple swords in a medieval style designed for light cutting practice but not blade-to-blade action. The same series includes blunt-edged swords created for training and for realistic battle re-enactments. Valiant’s “Signature” swords embellish the custom blades created by Gus Trim with the artistic finishes of sword-maker Christian Fletcher. The “Valhalla” series will feature the distinctive work of designer John Lundemo, owner of OdinBlades, who began the collection with an unusual sword called “The Warder.” The “Regal” collection features two longswords, the Kriegshwert and Monarch, again collaborations between Fletcher and Trim. Valiant also produces authentic “battle ready” medieval battle axes and both single and double battle flails.
