A set of knives from Emeril? Bam!
Okay, now that we’ve gotten the obligatory catchphrase quote out of the way, let’s evaluate these knives.
Any time a celebrity chef gets together with a mainstream knife manufacturer to make a “value” line of knives, we get nervous. What will they skimp on? How much more will you have to pay to have Emeril’s signature on your knives?
In this case, those worries proved to be mostly unfounded. They feature thin, lightweight, high-carbon and molybdenum steel blades that are sharp out of the box.
The black grips are pebbled for a non-slip grip. The old-school full-bolster is gone from these knives, which you’ll appreciate since it can get in the way of resharpening.
The set includes a paring knife, utility knife, bread knife, cook’s knife, carving knife, sharpening steel and kitchen shears.
For just a few bucks more, they 16-piece set is probably a better deal. It has everything the 8-piece set has plus a peeling knife, a santoku and six steak knives.
We can’t recommend these knives as highly as the Forschner Fibrox Knife Set, but that’s no surprise since those knives are such an incredible value.
