Since Shun knives are so well known for their quality and traditional craftsmanship, you shouldn't expect anything less from their storage block -- a product designed to store them carefully and keep them sharp for their next use. Fortunately, that's what it does.
Your entire cutlery collection will fit in this bamboo block. If it doesn't, you might want to think about paring it down a bit! The block has 22 different slots for knives, plus two other slots to fit a pair of shears as well as a sharpening rod.
The knife slots will accommodate everything from a large cleaver to a small paring knife. And it even features six slots on the bottom to store your steak knives. All slots are horizontal, except for the steak knife slots. This keeps your blades from touching the wood and potentially dulling them.
Another beautiful feature to this block is its bamboo construction. Since Shun knives hold true to ancient Japanese tradition so well, we're not surprised they chose bamboo. The craftsmanship is sturdy, not cheaply-made, and is even laminated for water resistance to normal wear-and-tear around the kitchen.
And while it may not be the cheapest you'll find, it's certainly worth the price.
